Hi guys, welcome to yet another new blog, today's blog I will be reviewing a four-piece indie rock band by the name of 'Anesthetic Youth.' I am very happy to see a lot of bands outside the UK getting in touch with me, meaning I can officially say that my blog is international. Today's band 'Anesthetic Youth' come from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam; they recently got in touch once again via my Instagram account. Once again I'll let the band introduce themselves, this is a brief description I pulled from their profile on bandcamp.com.
'Anesthetic Youth is a four-piece alternative indie rock band based in HCMC formed in 2017, composed by Giang (vocal), Luis (drums), Jesus (bass) and Angelo (guitar). The band started in 2017 as a Metal/Hardcore band but, after several changes in the line-up and adding Giang as a vocalist, they adventure themselves into a more experimental musical path.'
A very exciting prospect indeed, and another great opportunity for me to hopefully introduce you guys to a new band. The group currently have 1 EP which features 5 singles which they released in 2019, as well as a newly released single titled 'Fortune and Fame', all of which you guys can find in the links below. I began my review of the group by listening to their first track on their EP titled 'Self Portrait' which came across very strong. Listening to the lead singers vocals I was instantly reminded of Dolores O'Riordan (lead singer of Irish rock band The Cranberries). Not in the Irish aspect but the same sort of style of singing if you understand my drift. The song is fairly strong throughout, with a very talented guitar solo midway through the song which I believe pulls the whole song together. With well-written vocals and a stylish music structure, the song is a must-listen. Their next song 'Love affliction' takes a very different approach from that of the first one, and begins very upbeat and is an almost heavy metal like, before fading back into the bands' original style. Very well structured, the guitarist is very talented as throughout all the songs of theirs that I have listened to there is barely anything you can criticise. Out of their 5 songs 'Drive' has got to be my personal favourite; the song itself shares a lot of similarities to some of 'Suede' newest stuff from their album 'The Blue Hour.' Again a very nice guitar tune throughout the song accompanied by well-written vocals and a steady bass and drum sound. The last song of the EP 'Vices' starts differently to the others; it begins with a fast-paced guitar solo accompanied by drums, which work together to introduce the song very well. By listening to all five of their songs on the EP including 'Heartless' which I didn't mention it is clear that the band are still in the experimental stage, but the way they are going sounds very good. You can find all of these songs in the link below on the bands 'Dy Sto Pi A' EP. Finally, we have the bands newest release 'Fortune and Fame' which was released on February 12th 2020. This song I think moves away from the music style of their first 5 songs, hence the experimental stage. The song begins with a very powerful and upbeat guitar solo which eventually fades into the rest of the song where the vocals begin. The singers put a lot of emphasis on individual words which works well and allows the song to flow. The chorus is very well written and very well structured. In recent blogs, I feel I've been maybe a bit too positive and obviously a critic/bloggers job is to analyze all aspects and come up with the pros and cons. But honestly guys, the bands that get in touch are just very good, and very talented young musicians. I do try to find things that are negative but most of the time it is difficult, whether that reflects badly on my analytical ability I'll let you guys decide. But again we have a very talented and young band who I believe has a bright and successful future ahead of them in this industry. I can stress how grateful I am of bands around the world getting in touch, it really does help me grow and I hope my posts help them grow. Go and check these guys out in the links below, make sure to like and share this post as I would really appreciate it. Stay safe and peace.
