So I went to a party the other night as my dad's band were playing and I received a message request from a band called 'Rags and Riches' asking if I could check out their latest single. I was ecstatic that a band had asked me to blog about them. When I got home I sat down for a while and listened to them whilst enjoying a pint of East Coast IPA, I was really impressed. Pulled from their bio this is how the band describe themselves...

"RAGS AND RICHES IS AN ADRENALIZED, AMERICAN POP-ROCK BAND HAILING FROM LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY. FORMED IN 2017, THE BAND FEATURES BROTHERS TANNER + PEYTON WHITT. OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, THE BAND HAS DISCOVERED THEIR UNIQUE SOUND, IDENTITY, AND AESTHETIC. IN FEBRUARY OF 2019, RAGS AND RICHES RELEASED THEIR DEBUT SINGLE, 'SPEED OF SOUND'. IMPRESSIVELY, THE SONG CLOCKED OVER 725,000 SPOTIFY STREAMS AND OVER 500,000 YOUTUBE VIEWS. THE BROTHERS FOLLOW-UP RELEASES 'ARRIVAL', 'X', 'WAR CRY', 'NOT A STRANGER', AND 'LIGHT IT UP' SHOWCASE THE ECLECTIC GENRE CROSSOVER’S. THE DUO SPENT MUCH OF 2019 ON THE ROAD AND SET OUT ON THEIR FIRST HEADLINING TOUR. YOU CAN CATCH RAGS AND RICHES ON TOUR IN 2020."

Very interesting stuff and having listened to a few of their songs I can say that this description fits them perfectly. The band as it says above is made up of two brothers and having watched their music videos they share mainly similarities with two piece bands such as Royal Blood and Twenty One Pilots; in the case that they no doubt rely on some artificial sound, programmed initially by the band. So the band have just released their newest single titled 'Edge of Time', and that is the topic of today's blog.

So the song starts off really nicely with a cool little beat, not in your face straight from the off or anything. The lyrics kick in shortly after, and very well constructed and not complicated to understand at all. Eventually the song explodes into life with a mixture of beats, really effective. This song isn't like anything I listen to on a day to day basis but I'm so glad I found it and found the band because they are truly amazing. I like the fact the band are different, they haven't followed in a particular genre which they could have so easily done, but they've taken their time to experiment with different sounds and reach their conclusion, that's what true musical talents do. I love the lyric 'we are all just lions fighting for the jungle', I thought it was brilliant, and very true if you think about it. The song I think plays with you a bit in the way that you spend your time preparing for a drop or an explosion of music but it doesn't come, but when it does drop it catches you by surprise, that to me is what makes a good song. The song throughout uses a very nice blend of beats to create this unique sound. Towards the end the song fades out naturally and I was left there absolutely gobsmacked. I am so glad this band got in contact because I've been blown away by their talent. I've been hoping to put a blog out a little bit more critical but there's nothing to say about these two brothers that is bad.

I seriously recommend to anyone who loves music as much as I do to give these guys your time, you'll love it. They have also done some really cool music videos and some sweet single artwork that you can see below and on their Instagram account. They have more songs in their catalogue as well so there's plenty to listen to. Hopefully they'll come to the UK soon and do a tour here because I would love to see them live. All the bands I have discovered through doing this blog Rags and Riches top them all. Please make sure to go follow them on Spotify and give 'Edge of Time' a listen. Also make sure to like the post and share it around, I would really appreciate it. Peace.
