On Instagram, I follow a few bands, most of them low key because there's a lot of hidden gems in the music industry that deserve to be noticed. Today's review focuses on a newly released single 'That much I know' by a small Nottingham based band called Near Mrs.
The band only formed within the last year and are band based in Nottingham where all the members attend university. So far they have released 2 songs, 'she goes' and the newly released 'that much I know.' Having listened to She goes I was thoroughly impressed. Having looked further into the band the lead singer Ryan Webb has had a lot of experience in music which is nice to see for someone who is only 20 years old. The band are moving swiftly and it's only a matter of time until they break out on the indie rock scene properly. The band consists of Ryan Webb (lead vocalist and guitar), Toby Wilson (Drummer), Will Kirk (Guitarist), Taig O'Shea (Guitarist) and Taylor Wadman (Bassist) all very talented musicians.
I'm a big fan of indie rock as a genre and most gigs I go to are to see indie rock bands. Having spoken to various music fanatics, most of them are under the impression that most indie bands are too similar to each other and I sort of understand that to a certain extent. However, this band are different, mainly vocals wise. This guy, Ryan Webb has a distinctive voice much like the lead singer of Arctic Monkeys Alex Turner or Bono from U2. It's a voice that I believe if you listen to enough you'll eventually be able to tell that it's him singing. In other words, Near Mrs comes across as fresh and a nice new sound that I haven't heard before but I'm glad I have. Not to mention the incredible sound coming from the drummer Toby Wilson, shown in their first single ' She Goes' where the song begins with a very nice drum start which allows the guitarists to come in, very effective.
'That much I know' is hands down a quality little song which I do thoroughly recommend listening to if you are a fan of indie rock. The song begins with a very nice guitar solo that leads perfectly into the vocals. The vocals are nothing short of genius, very fun and very romantic. The use of long but intelligent words shows how the band knows their stuff and haven't rushed the song which some bands just starting off may do. The guitar tune throughout the song superbly accompanies the vocals. The song isn't too flashy or too out there but it doesn't need to be, the simplicity of the vocals and the instruments comes together really well making this is a must-listen for me.
It's clear that Near Mrs have already begun their journey to stardom and I wish them all the best. This Sunday I'll be attending an acoustic gig by the lead vocalist Ryan so I'll review that and hopefully get an even better insight into where he plans to take this. The song is now on all major platforms so I would recommend you give it a listen. Hope you enjoyed this review and don't forget to like, share and comment. Peace.
